Keeping your business phones working in hurricane season

The Atlantic hurricane season runs from 1 June to 30 November. Use this checklist before it starts, when a storm is forecast, and after it passes.

Before the season

  • Confirm where calls go if your office loses power or internet — mobiles or another site — and test it.
  • Install the softphone or mobile app for anyone who may need to work from home, and check they can log in.
  • Put a small UPS on your router and network switch so desk phones ride out short power cuts.
  • Check the registered emergency address for every handset is still correct.
  • Before each hurricane season we test your failover routes and confirm emergency addresses.

When a storm is forecast

  • Charge mobiles and power banks, and make sure staff know which number rings where.
  • Test the mobile app on mobile data, not the office Wi-Fi.
  • Save our fault line in everyone's phone: +1 876 618 8323.

During an outage

  • Incoming calls fail over to the destination you set, so customers still get through.
  • Internet calling needs power and a working connection. Use a mobile for emergencies — 119 for police, 110 for fire and ambulance.

After it passes

  • When power and internet are back, check desk phones show as registered and make a test call.
  • If anything isn't working, call the fault line — it's open 24/7.
